The One Year Chronological Bible - 365-Day Reading Plan - NIVUK Version

Five years ago Elise and I spent a year reading a chronologically arranged NLT version of the Bible, occasionally using the NIVUK audiobook version narrated by David Suchet to give my narrating skills a rest. This year, we once again did the chronological plan, but this time around chose to listen to the entire thing rather than use our physical copy (which we have lent to my parents anyway).
This is, I think, the first time since beginning this blog that I am re-reviewing a previously reviewed book. I have re-read some books, but so far only ones that I read before I was writing reviews. But, this is a good book to break that trend, both because it is the Bible(!) and because listening to a (mostly) different version in a (for me) different format means that there were some different things that jumped out this time around.
I do remember pointing out last time that there are parts of this 'chronological arrangement' where I do question why they were arranged in that particular order. Obviously any arrangement of Scripture is a little bit 'best guess', but on occasions I feel like better guesses could have been made. With the version we were listening to being arranged on an app by the day, it also jumped out just how oddly the days had been shaped, particularly when at times only a handful of verses from a particular chapter - or even book! - would be left for another day!
These, of course, are editorial choices and don't reflect on the power of reading Scripture itself.
Chronologically, it becomes apparent how much grace God has, even in the parts of the Bible (read, the Old Testament) where on the surface it can seem like He is a vengeful God. It can also give added context to a book to read large portions in one go - we finished this plan a few days early because Elise was enjoying hearing all of Revelation together.
The other neat thing about doing something like this is how often the particular verses given for any given day really do speak to where the reader is at. Any excuse to read the Bible is a good one, and God's living word can speak directly to us, if we let it.
